"I'm not in this world to live up to your expectations and you're not in this world to live up to mine."
~ Bruce Lee
"Let go." This is the call to happiness in most teachings. Expectation can be a way to avoid the present, and anticipation can bring overwhelming nervous excitement. Let go. See what plays out between you and your environment.
We've all planned vacations with high expectations, only to be disappointed that our experience didn't meet them. The let-down was not caused by the place we visited or the experiences we had there. The problem was having held expectations that catapulted us into the future so far we could not stay in the present.
Let go; be here now. Drop your expectations about what is "great" or "right" and see what happens next time you connect with your beloved. Stop worrying about how you think the "evening, date, dinner, event" should go. Allow each happening to have its own unique imprint and don't measure it against the last time or how you think it "should have gone." Let go of your internal unhappiness about your life and enjoy!
